Kitchens and bathrooms are key decision areas for most buyers. In kitchens, clear worktops and put away drying racks where possible. Make sure sinks are clean and cupboards close properly.
In bathrooms, clean grout, polish taps and mirrors and use fresh towels. Removing everyday items from sight for photos and viewings helps these rooms feel fresher.
Maximise light and warmth
Light changes how a room feels. Open curtains and blinds fully and clean windows to allow as much daylight as possible. Check that all bulbs work and that the lighting feels warm and consistent.
During darker months, a well lit home feels more welcoming and reassuring.
Minimise pet impact
If you have pets, do what you can to reduce hair and odours. Vacuum before viewings and wash pet bedding regularly. If possible, arrange for pets to be out of the property when buyers are looking around.
Not all buyers are animal lovers and strong smells can distract from the rest of the viewing.
Use simple finishing touches
You do not need to spend large sums. Fresh bedding, some simple cushions, a vase of flowers or a couple of plants can lift rooms. Repainting a very bold room in a more neutral tone can widen appeal.
